"I'm a bit freaked out only because I'm in the worst shape of my life. I am a slowpoke and I will never be able to keep up. Plus I am carrying too many lbs : how can I do this?"

 

This training is for BEGINNERS. We will take it slow. Each week builds on the previous week's training in order to get you to race day happy and excited about this fun new event in your life.

 

"I worry about not having enough time to do this training. How much time will I really need to train?"

 

You will be training a total of 5 days per week : 2 of those days will be your coached workouts with viXen training; the other 3 days will be 25 minutes minimum per day up to a maximum of 1 hour per day depending on the week : most days will really be 30 to 45 mins.

 

"I worry about not having the right gear. I don't have a good bike. I don't have anything at all. What gear do I really need?"

 

Your basic gear list is :

 

TRI OUTFIT a top and shorts (or one piece) that you can wear for your swim, bike and run. It is easy to work out in and dries quickly.

FINS for swim practice

 

WETSUIT you do not need this right now but you will really like having one for race day !

 

GOGGLES for swim practice

 

SWIM CAP (to be provided by viXen)

 

BIKE ( beach cruiser, hybrid, mountain bike -- whatever rolls !)

 

BIKE HELMET protect your head !

 

BIKE PUMP pump up those tires correctly !

 

BIKE TOOL KIT this is a little sack you attach under your bike seat. It will contain inner tubes and repair kit if you get a flat tire. We will learn how to change flats.

 

BIKE SHOES only if you are on clipless pedals otherwise you will use your run shoes to bicycle.

 

RUN SHOES

 

SUNGLASSES to protect your eyes during your bike ride and run

 

BACKPACK to carry your gear for race day (any big bag to hold all your stuff which you can wear on your back to keep your hands free to push your bike to the bike racks)

 

optional : SNORKEL for swim practice if you really want to be a better swimmer !

"Where are we working out? I don't know if I can make all the workouts : will this be a problem?"

 

Do the best you can to attend as many workouts as possible. If you are going to miss a workout, let me know and I will give you homework :D

 

Your WEDS workouts will be at SANTA MONICA COLLEGE for swimming.

 

Your SATURDAY workouts will be on your bicycle, usually meeting in Playa del Rey at Del Rey Lagoon.
